  • Many thanks to Barbara DE GIUSTI in Italy for providing her extensive (over 600 entries!) bibliography; most of the biblographical information conerning Italian secondary literature is due to her generosity, as are many references to Blanchot’s early journalism.

  • Jari KAUPPINEN and Peter MICKWITZ informed me of the state of Blanchot’s works in Finnish; Peter published the first translation of a Blanchot work in Finnish — Päivän hulluus, a translation of La folie du jour. It is part of a series, beautifully entitled “Lue vähemmän,” “Read less.”
  • Kevin HART of Monash University has helpfully supplied information about his and Blanchot’s recent publications.

 

Several bibliographies were consulted in the construction of the present pages. In addition the the one by Barbara DE GIUSTI, the most important of these are the following:

  • Françoise COLLIN. Maurice Blanchot et la question de l’écriture, Paris: Gallimard, 1971.
  • Michael HOLLAND, ed., The Blanchot Reader, Oxford: Blackwell, 1995, has a bibliography of Blanchot in English prepared by Peter C. Hoy, and Holland’s introductory narratives are rich with detail and context. Also, Holland’s “Bibliographie I,” published in Gramma, is an excellent resource. Unfortunately, I have been unable to locate his “Bibliographie II,” published in a subsequent issue of Gramma.
  • Steven UNGAR‘s “Maurice Blanchot: A Bibiliographical Checklist,” SubStance (1976), 14, pp. 152-59, is one of the best bibliographies to date, with hundreds of citations of Blanchot’s writings as well as of the secondary literature, especially those in French. Users should be wary of typographical errors.
  • Leslie HILL‘s recently published Extreme Contemporary indeed contains the finest bibliography of Blanchot’s works to have appeared in print to date. I have him to thank for many of the collations among Blanchot’s hard-to-trace reprintings and textual comments found in the chronological bibliography of Blanchot’s works.
  • Jim COMAS also has been helpful in passing along useful information on secondary literature.
